Day 164 – Execution is Everything

I have spent my life coming up with great ideas, great plans, great schemes for improving my life, my company, my society. The idea itself is actually completely meaningless and has no inherent value by itself. This concept is a tried and tested. I heard the definition of maturity the other day. Maturity is basically the ability to say no to good ideas and opportunities to say yes to an even better one.

I have now come to the conclusion that the best opportunity is definitely one that I have the ability to execute on. If I am unable to put the idea into a course of action for an extended period of time – then the idea was not really good at all. In fact you can say that the idea was complete rubbish.

If the idea cannot become something via execution, then the idea has no merit, no value and is worthless. If you have a brain, then you can come up with ideas. The giant chasm that separates you from the humans with brains and ideas and have achieved success is execution. In the race of ideas – the person with the poor idea and the capability to execute will always beat the person with the great idea that is not capable of executing on their idea.

The farmer will always take the person that shows up in the morning with a willingness to do work over that of the smart person with ideas on how to improve things. You can tell me a million times how something could be improved, but until I see you take that idea to flight on the wings of your hard work – I just simply do not believe you.

I only believe at this point the person that can demonstrate effect through execution and success. I have had my fill of people with heads full of ideas, and that includes myself.

365 today – focus on what I can execute on.
