Someone told me today that I should not look a gift horse in the mouth. I think that is supposed to mean that you should not question a gift, you should just be gracious that you got it.
This makes no sense to me. The Greeks gave the Trojans a giant gift horse. They had spies hiding inside. They did not look the gift horse in the mouth and therefore did not know that Greek soldiers were inside waiting to sneak out at night and open the gates.
If.you receive a very nice gift from someone, shouldn’t you stop to think about what that implies??
