An interesting challenge to consider on creating a 365 list in the morning. Have you considered what you are doing to create experience in your life? Too often we are participants, bystanders, or observers in experiences that other people have created. When was the last time that you started the day with the thought – today I am going to create the experience rather then just receive an experience.
I realized this as I was running around outside, thinking through what I did today. I had a plane get cancelled which forced me to change my plans and left me with an unexpected amount of time. A very rare experience, which honestly gave me a chance to unwind a little, a good thing. However, that got me to thinking. It was the delayed plane, or the FAA that caused this experience – I was just reacting to an experience generated for me. I was not being purposeful in creating this valuable time.
How much different would life be if I actually created opportunities for me to experience rather then waiting for something to happen, and I react? Several years ago, I knew this family that would organize their backyard into a theater and they would get their kids together and they would all rehearse a famous old play and then every Friday night they would put the production on for the neighborhood. This family created an experience that would not only impact everyone in that neighborhood, but would definitely help them as a family. Not to mention watching their 3 year old reenact a scene from a Greek tragedy was priceless.
The times when I am the happiest, I am creating and to consider that everyday when I wake up I have an opportunity to create experience for myself or others is a interesting and motivating concept. What are you doing to create experience?
