Keeping a daily commitment is probably the first step in establishing real progress toward achieving your goals.
The second step might be in raising the bar for those commitments. This could be simply a quantitative exercise. For example, doing more 9f a certain thing. I might decide to run 50 miles a week and raise the bar from 40. However, the challenging ones are the qualitative improvements.
Improving the quality of a commitment may not have an easy way to measure. Sure, waking up at 5am was a commitment that I made to complete everyday – but how do I improve the quality of that commitment? Perhaps I could measure quality? If I am up by 5am and on the road running by 515am, then that would improve the quality of my waking. No more sitting on the side of the bed contemplating if I should really get up or not.
Prayer is now a commitment, but how do I know I have improved the quality? I suppose I could do some things to increase the likelihood of a quality prayer. For example, write down an outline of what to consider in prayer before I start. Ok, you are going to say that sounds silly. However think on this, when I am going to have a meeting with my boss at work, I write up an outline of talking points. Shouldn’t I take a conversation with the big man upstairs even more seriously?
I am really thinking that rather the. Increasing my habits, that I need to improve the quality of them. In effect, I need to raise the bar on my 365 commitment.
