Be the Goat. That was what my daughter told me after I poised this query. The concept is that if you had one word to put after the phrase Be The… what would it be? My daughter told me I should be the Goat. No she was not teasing me. Goat stands for Greatest of All Time!
Of course I don’t think I could every really aspire to that lofty of a Be The word, but it does present a very interesting concept to grapple with. I suppose I could just Be The Guy, but that would be pretty corny. What should my Be The phrase be, if I could only pick one.
This phrase has an implication. The word “be” has two meanings. One is to exist and the other is to occur, to materialize, to arise. The word “the” in the english language is a what is called a determiner. This points forward to a qualifying clause or phrase. So effectively when you write “Be The” down the next word you write you are saying you are going to exist to cause that word to happen.
So what is the word you would put down. I am not sure this is an easy exercise. I still have not come up with the word. For example, if I put Be the Dad. That has some significant implications! Think of that! That may actually be the best one I came up with yesterday. Be the Dad is certainly a higher calling, a noble exercise. What one word do you want to be known for at the end of your life? If you only could pick one word? What would that word be?
My daughter gave me many suggestions besides “goat.” She also said I could Be the Unicorn. Not sure I was comfortable with that one, but the more I think about it – there is some interesting meaning buried in that word. In a world full of horses, maybe being the unicorn is not such a bad concept. She also recommended, Be the Inspiration, and Be the Anchor. Also equally interesting Be The words. Could I really aspire to Being THE inspiration?!!
Be the Best, Be the Greatest, Be the One, Be the Top, Be the Change, Be the Good, Be the Thunder, Be the Light, Be the King, Be the Alpha, Be the Influence, Be the Difference, Be the Friend, Be the You.
I wonder what word you might settle on?
