Day 270 – Getting Real

A while back ago there was a popular phrase where someone would inevitably say something to the effect that we need to “get real.” I think this is an interesting concept and it is related to being present, being engaged in the moment and taking your 365 commitment seriously.

When you are engaged in an activity that is accomplishing your 365 commitment, then there is nothing more important then what you are participating in that moment. That means you need to get real. If you are finding that the activity is not producing the outcome that you want – then change it.

Today I was involved in a meeting where the person presenting was not providing me the expectation that I had wanted to get at and had considered as an outcome this morning as I reviewed my list. I was not just going to sit there. Now, I could have. I could have checked out, started looking at my phone, distracting myself and waited until the activity was done. However, I decided to make sure that I got the outcome from my 365 – so I opened my mouth and challenged the person and the topic being presented. I made the conversation – get real.

The problem is that it was awkward, it was not “normal.” People get really uncomfortable with that. They are not used to being engaged on that level. They are not used to real conversations.

I think this is a great thing to remember. Stay engaged in every moment available to you and focus on making sure you get your commitments done and to get real when required.
