Day 73 – Courage ?

Have courage.  What is courage?  Why should we have it?  This is the rabbit hole that has opened before me as I write today.

Courage seems to be connected to resisting impulsive actions  that result from fear.  For example, fear can cause us to relinquish our responsibility to change things that we should.  So, not relinquishing responsibility to do right in the face of fear is the beginning of a working definition for courage.  The sensation of of fear is not absent in a courageous moment, it is there.

However, we are here to make things better, to weigh in, to effect change, to manifest our will, to do right.  It takes courage to live up to this when impulsive action and bad habits are there waiting to rob us of our potential, of our purpose.  Because surely our purpose is not to just exist.

Perhaps fear is only one of many emotions that elicit impulsive actions that courage (not relinquishing responsibility to do right) must overcome in spite of.  Apathy, complacence, doubt, anger, jealousy, disgust all impel certain behaviors that can lead us to act in ways that that are not in accordance with our reason for being, but if followed.

Well, this is a deep subject.  Courage is worth thinking about.  I hope touching on the concept of courage and bringing it to mind will help you in your 365 Commitment.  Have courage to change the things you can – for the better.
