I have been watching the results come in all day from the Badwater 135 race. This is a running competition where people leave from Badwater basin in the desert below sea level and race up to the top of Whitney Portal trailhead. A work colleague of mine is in the race and it has been fun to watch his progress. Most people think this is just insanity, perhaps it is. The weird thing is that I do not!

Funny how something can seem so completely out of reach, until you start to work on it and then it does not seem quite impossible. I have been running for awhile now, and I could actually see myself doing a race like this. Now I have a long way to go, and it still feels incredibly difficult, but it is possible.

Is that not the secret to overcoming great challenges? You just have to start? Once you do, that distant horizon gets a little closer. Each step forward reveals a little more detail until voila you can see a path to getting there.
