The 365 Commitment

Day 88 – See the Day

This morning I had a thought and I went through a simple exercise. I added this to my 365 list and I feel that it has helped me significantly, so I want to share the concept. First I think it is really important to visualize where, what, and who you want to be in the future. In my opinion, the more specific and real the visualization is the more likely you are to become what you see. The opposite is true as well, if you cannot see what you want to become – you are never going to get there.

Here is the exercise. Pick a date in the future. I have already picked March 1st, 2019 from a previous epiphany that I had. So I am sticking with that date. Once you have a day in mind, start to visualize what that day will be like for you. You should be really specific. Ask yourself a lot of questions – Where will I be on that day? What will I be preparing to do? What will my morning routine be like? When I look in the mirror to brush my teeth, what will I look like? What will I wear that day? What will be worrying me on that day? What will I be proud of on that day? What type of projects will I have on my plate? Who will I be talking to that day? Who will I have lunch with? Dinner with? What will I eat for breakfast? How am I going to feel about myself?

You think this is silly? Try it and see what happens. You can make fun of me AFTER you go through the process. I really do not believe that you will have a bad experience. This visualization technique is not new and I have seen it taught in very expensive seminars. So skip paying the money and try to start visualizing your future self.

One thing you will need to commit to before you start this visualization technique is time. You actually need to schedule and spend time on this. I find the best way to do this is while walking or some other form of exercise. If you are able to avoid distraction – sitting somewhere quiet with all electronics turned off could help. Sometimes I listen to a soft classical type music and let my mind explore what that day in the future will be like.

So mark some visualization time on your 365 list as high priority and see the day!
