Skating Away – 97 Days Left

Today is a new day. The failures and the accomplishments of the past are now gone. All you have is the present day and the wilderness of your future. So some of you can choose to wallow around on the shores of what you should have done, but the rest of us have chosen to strap on our blades and skate away on the thin ice of a new day (reference to a quote from a poet that one of our new commitment members will appreciate).

So as I ran in the desert this morning, I thought of the opposite. Imagined myself skating on ice instead of running through the sand. And as I pondered my way through a long stretch of a long dirt road, I thought of where I want to be. Do I want to be stuck in the rut of what I am supposed to be, of what society expects me to be? No, I would rather push off from the shore, set my sights toward the rising sun and find the source of what seems to be driving me toward my future self despite of the uncertainty.

Yeah, but that sounds scary. Heading out into the world beyond the expectations of yourself and others seems like a risky proposition. Well it is, and it hard, and uncomfortable. You will most likely be exposed as a fraud, failure, or worse. Choosing to make changes in your life, boldly embarking on a path of self improvement, even when you feel completely unprepared and unqualified is scary. I think we all know, however, what is better. You are not going to find what you are looking for on the comfortable and well trod paths along the shore.

So are you with me? In what way? I have come to the opinion that the better we all are as people the more successful we will all be. So lace up the skates and join me on the thin ice of this new life!
